Tyson Downs – Inspiration
Tyson was a seemingly healthy elite athlete whose life was taken during the best years of his life. At just 18 years old in the early hours of July 23, 2023, we lost Tyson. A friend, teammate, brother and son who lived his life to the fullest each day. His infectious smile and willingness to be the best captured the hearts of everyone he met.
Tysons determination in life was one that inspires all of us. His approach to sports was one of an elite athlete, the practice and the willingness to be better landed him a spot on the KW Siskins Jr B Hockey club and the Owen Sound Jr B North Star Lacrosse Team. Tyson was an exceptional golfer and a member of the Legacy Ridge Golf Course.
It was discovered that Tyson carried a positive hereditary mutated gene, this gene MYH7 was found in his heart causing sudden cardiac arrest, there were no signs or symptoms, and his immediate family are undergoing extensive testing to see if they are also carriers of the mutated gene.
The response and support Tysons family have received is truly a testament to the compassion people have. Much like Tyson, his actions always spoke louder than words and was grounded by his parent’s advice “Always stay Humble and Kind”

Family was the most important thing to Tyson; he loved the holidays like Christmas and looked forward to his vacations in Florida.
The morning of July 23, 2023, changed our lives and the lives of so many.
There is not a day that goes by where we are not thinking about him, often seeing the signs that he is watching. Dragonfly’s, hawks and the numbers 66, 26 and 92.
July 23, 2023, is frozen in time for all who loved him, much like so many others that have been affected by the sudden loss of someone close, its hard to imagine we are living our life without Tyson.
“You don’t need to be the best, you just need to give your best” these words have given us the inspiration to create the TD Beat Association, we will do our best to help others in our community in honour of Tyson.
